Our quaint "rustic gingerbread & clinkerbrick" cottage is situated on Mount Taranaki / Mount Egmont within Egmont National Park - surrounded by native flora & fauna. Awake to the native bird calls. Dine on your breakfast while admiring the majestic views looking down over the Taranaki farmland to the coast below.
The historic Rahiri Cottage is the only surviving tollgate in any New Zealand national park and is entwined with the servicing of the northern access into the national park.
Rahiri Cottage was built in 1929 to house the park board's gatekeeper who collected a toll to the entrance into the park. This allowed the then, one way road, into the park to be gradually developed over the years.
You can now relax in the charms of yesteryear whilst soaking in the atmosphere of Rahiri and it's surrounds....
Wander the many walking tracks including the adjacent trek to the Waiwhakaiho river through unique rainforests dripping with mosses and lichens and alphine scenery.This provides opportunities for photography, bird watching, mountaineering and generally enjoying the variety of scenery and habits of New Zealands most attractive and symmetrical mountain.
The North Egmont Visitors Centre just up the mountain has informative displays and a 20 minute audio-visual.
You are also welcome to come and enjoy our "Mountain Cafe" situated a few minutes up the mountain, we can even pack you a picnic basket...you may never want to leave....
Play 18 holes of golf at the picturesque Inglewood Golf Club for just $25 .........only a 5 minute drive away. Play 9 holes for $12 . Clubs available for hire.
